What to Expect:
Your dog will be evaluated on ten essential skills, including:
· Accepting a friendly stranger
· Sitting politely for petting
· Walking on a loose leash
· Coming when called
· Supervised separation
A full description of all 10 test items can be found on the AKC website.
Who Can Participate: Dogs of all breeds, ages (over 6 months), and backgrounds are welcome. No AKC registration is required to take the test.
Preparation Tips: Make sure your dog is comfortable around other dogs and people and has had some practice with basic obedience commands in a variety of environments. Dogs must test on a flat collar or harness and fixed length 6’ leash. No training aids are permitted during the test. This includes treats, toys, e-collars, slip leads, prong collars, and wonder leads.
