2022 GSPCI Introduction to Field Training Workshop

9:00 AM to 2:00 PM Sunday, March 6

West Grounds, Des Plaines State Fish and Wildlife Area

Kick off your 2022 field training program with us on Sunday, March 6. The workshop will serve as an introduction for new handlers as well as a review for handlers who have participated in previous years’ GSPCI Dog Days of Summer Field Training.

During the workshop we will explain and demonstrate the fundamentals of system we use for our spring and summer training sessions. To reserve your spot contact Training Director, Christine Selep at chris.selep@gmail.com. Registration closes Thursday, March 3.

Highlights of the workshop

  • Held both indoors and outdoors on the West Grounds of the Des Plaines State Fish Wildlife Area, 28163 N River Road, Wilmington, Illinois 60481

  • There is no charge for this workshop

  • We recommend that you purchase a Huntsmith Command/Wonder lead to use on the 6th. The lead can be purchased through most online catalogs as well as in a full training kit from Dogs Unlimited, item number Item #: 00001-70001K. We will have a limited number of leads for use on March 6.

  • The morning session will be indoors in a classroom style setting. After a break for lunch (coffee and bottled water will be provided). We will finish the day working with our dogs in the parking lot. There will also be a short field demonstration.

Notes for the day:

  • Please bring a lunch and snacks for yourself

  • We recommend that you have a command lead or 6’ lead and flat collar for your dog

  • All-weather gear is recommended, we plan on spending time outside, including in the field for the demonstration

  • Dogs are not allowed in the building and must be on a leash or check cord at all times including in the parking lot or field.
