2023 GSPCI Introduction to Field Training Workshop

9:00 AM to 2:30 PM Sunday, March 12

East Grounds, Des Plaines State Fish & Wildlife Area

Kick off your 2023 field training program with us on Sunday, March 12. The workshop will serve as an introduction for new handlers as well as a review for handlers who have participated in previous years’ GSPCI Dog Days of Summer Field Training.

During the workshop we will explain and demonstrate the fundamentals of the training system we use for our spring and summer training sessions.

Highlights of the workshop

• Held both indoors and outdoors on the East Grounds of the Des Plaines State Fish & Wildlife Area, 30507 S. Boathouse Road, Wilmington, Illinois 60481

From I 55 exit on North River Road. After exiting, turn east to the first road on your right, Boathouse Road. Turn south on Boathouse Road, the entrance to the parking lot will be approximately ¼ mile on your left.

• There is no charge for this workshop

• We will introduce and demonstrate how to use the Huntsmith Command/Wonder lead, an integral part of this training system. We have a limited number of leads available for $35. To reserve your lead to be delivered at the workshop Venmo $35 to @pdlugie. The leads can also be purchased online from retailers like gundogsupply.com and dogsunlimited.com. • The morning session will be indoors in a classroom style setting (coffee and donuts provided). After a break for lunch. We will finish the day working with our dogs in the parking lot. There will also be a short field demonstration.

Notes for the day:

• Check in at 8:30.

• Plan on bringing a beverage, bag lunch and snacks for yourself and your dog.

• We recommend that you have a command lead or 6’ lead and flat collar for your dog.

• All-weather gear is recommended, we plan on spending time outside, including in the field for the demonstration.

• Dogs are not allowed in the building and must be on a leash or check cord at all times including in the parking lot or field. Please do not run dogs in the field prior to the workshop.
